Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center (IHTC) Teams Up with McKesson Compile to Pioneer Quality Care for Blood Disorder Patients

IHTC is committed to identifying treatment-ready patients and helping them overcome complex care challenges

Navigating the complex world of rare blood disorder care can be daunting for patients who frequently encounter hurdles in obtaining diagnoses, securing appointments, and accessing appropriate medications. For many, the journey is fraught with challenges that can be both exhausting and overwhelming. Innovative Hematology is home to the IHTC, Indiana’s only federally designated hemophilia treatment center (HTC) uniquely qualified to treat rare blood disorders. IHTC has stood as a beacon of hope for these patients, dismantling barriers by offering comprehensive, coordinated lifespan care throughout the state of Indiana. With more than 40 expert physician specialists and advanced practice providers, IHTC is devoted to treating rare bleeding and blood disorders and transforming lives.

The challenge: Raising provider and patient awareness for IHTC services

Business Challenge

To support their mission of providing expert care to the greatest number of Indiana patients, IHTC needed a deeper understanding of their healthcare landscape, including detailed insights into referral patterns and patient migration. Identifying patients with rare blood disorders can be challenging due to several factors, including the rarity of these conditions, the non-specific symptoms they present, and the lack of widespread knowledge and awareness among healthcare professionals that treat them. Enhancing provider and patient awareness was crucial but difficult without precise, actionable data on where potential patients were receiving care and who the providers that treated them were. IHTC lacked access to the necessary real-world data on patient interactions and the in-house expertise to perform the required analyses, which is why they sought to identify a partner to help them.

The solution: IHTC partners with McKesson Compile to identify opportunities for patient and provider outreach and education

targeting solution

After careful evaluation, IHTC chose to partner with McKesson Compile™ due to our customer-focused approach and integrated data and analytics solutions. The first step in this journey was for the McKesson Compile team to collaborate with IHTC to understand the patients they treat and the details of their therapeutic domain. McKesson Compile worked to develop clear analytic goals based on IHTC’s needs, including an exploration of treatment dynamics in their landscape as well as referral patterns for patients with hemophilia A and B, von Willebrand disease, and sickle cell disease within the state of Indiana.

Results: Data-backed strategies for targeted market outreach

biotech-result

Leveraging a combination of Patient ReadyData™ and Provider 360 ReadyData, the McKesson Compile team created a custom analysis that provided IHTC a clear view of the rare blood disorder landscape within Indiana and neighboring geographies. Specifically, the analysis helped IHTC understand who the providers treating and referring patients with rare blood disorders were, the organizations they were affiliated with, and a breakdown of patient volumes for each. The report not only highlighted the locations of the patients that were likely underserved by IHTC’s services, but in addition identified non-specialized providers that could most benefit from targeted outreach and educational sessions.

The analysis revealed key information such as the number of patients treated in-state versus those referred out-of-state, and it identified leading healthcare providers and organizations within Indiana that share the same patient profiles as those treated by IHTC. The analysis extended IHTC’s understanding of where their patients sought treatment by showing patient referral patterns outside of Indiana and pinpointed the top states and neighboring HTCs that served as referral destinations for Indiana patients.

Armed with this analysis, the IHTC team is deploying targeted strategies to drive patient volume by increasing outreach, strengthening provider networks, improving referral processes, and enhancing education initiatives across Indiana. With insights from the partnership with McKesson Compile, IHTC is enhancing the delivery of care and positively impacting the lives of those they serve.
